Life at Marlborough House extends well beyond the classroom where extra-curricular trips and activities enrich children’s experiences, developing the skills children will need to thrive as adults in the 21st century.
A key strength of Marlborough House is the outstanding quality and enviable variety of our extra-curricular programme which is offered to children in both the Pre-Prep and Prep School.
Our club programme alone offers over 70 activties a year and there is no additional charge for clubs run by MHS teachers and sports coaches.
The contribution of curricular and extra-curricular provision is excellent

Clubs
There is plenty to choose from for all ages. The old favourites of Chess, Arts and Crafts, and Karate are complemented by new clubs such as Mindfulness Colouring, Entrepreneurship, Construction and Music Technology.
However, we have also been mindful of the importance of unstructured play, ‘free time’, which is precious in childhood and can sometimes get squeezed out in ever more busy days.
The majority of our clubs are after-school, so our children have break and lunch times free for playing with friends and enjoying our wonderful grounds and woodlands.
Example clubs
Yoga
Lego Master Builders
Ballet
Coding
Cheerleading

TRIPS
We firmly believe in the importance of a well-rounded education, where activities beyond the academic curriculum enrich children’s experiences. Trips and visits are a regular and exciting part of school life at Marlborough House. During the school year, pupils experience a wide range of daily and residential outings that enhance their classroom learning, help them bond with their classmates and enable them to compete with other schools at fixtures and tournaments played away from home.
These trips can be part of the subject curriculum, or extra-curricular activities both at home and abroad. We believe that the knowledge and experience gained beyond the classroom can consolidate and extend the taught curriculum within it.
Curricular Trips
Examples include:
-
Geography trip to Iceland
-
Local History trips to Battle Abbey, Richborough Roman Fort and The Museum of Kent Life
-
Local Science trips to Great Dixter, local farms and Herstmonceux Observatory
-
Trips to London museums, galleries and theatres to support learning across a range of subjects
-
Farm visits for Pre-Prep and Nursery
-
Beach School trips
Extra-Curricular Trips
Prep School trips include the camping adventures, residential trips and staycations, whilst Boarders enjoy a range of outings including a Christmas shopping trip and bowling.
Further afield, we also have our annual Ski Trip to the Alps and a Year 8 Leavers' Trip to France.
An excellent range of educational visits further enhances the curriculum

LEAVERS' PROGRAMME
At Marlborough House we work hard and play hard and no more so than the senior children in the lead up to and after their final exams. Once Common Entrance exams are over, our jam-packed Leavers' Programme kicks in and Year 8 takes on a busy schedule of residential field trips involving high octane physical challenges and team building exercises.
First up is the Leavers' Trip to France; a fantastic way to kick-off their Leavers' Programme.
Confidence-boosting drama workshops where the children try their hands at script writing, animation, set design, direction and acting are a popular feature and we run courses in leadership, life skills and self-awareness which prove valuable for the journey ahead. The Leavers' Programme is also peppered with "down time" when the children can attend more relaxed social events together such as trips to the seaside and team gatherings for gastronomic feasts.
Every year we see the children complete the programme and head for pastures new with old fears conquered, friendships strengthened, confidence at an all time high and an infectious optimism as they approach the next stage of their journeys into senior school and beyond. The MHS Leavers' Programme gives children the chance to say their proper farewells to friends and staff in a last and unforgettable hurrah.
This last term has been a great experience and shown me that the friends I've made are friends for life.
