On a sunny September morning, we sent our Year 4’s far away from the dangers of WWII.
The children travelled to Tenterden to catch the evacuee train to … well, they weren’t really sure when they boarded where they were going.
On their steam-powered journey, they met 'Viv the spiv' who tried to sell them black market chocolate. They learnt how to make chocolate spread from the unlikely ingredients of cocoa, sugar and … mashed potato! Fortunately, they arrived safely in a Welsh village where they met some very friendly host families. Then, it was back to good old 2023.
Well done to all the children who really enjoyed being immersed in 1940s culture, but definitely felt grateful that they didn’t have to live through a real evacuation.
