On Tuesday, Year 3 travelled back in time to a world of bonnets, mangles and gruel!
The Year 3 children had a wonderful day at the Musuem of Kent Life this week and they particularly enjoyed dressing up as Victorians from all walks of life. They enjoyed getting to grips with a bodger (used for making rag rugs) and had an encounter with Florence Nightingale, who taught them a good bedside manner and how to tie a selection of bandages. They then experienced the terror of attending a Victorian school, with a few even wearing the dreaded dunce's cap! A factory owner tried to sign them all up to collect stray cotton from his looms and they went deep underground in the mines to work by candlelight. After lunch they experienced life “below stairs” with a scullery maid, learning how the order of a house worked and learnt some ironing and folding skills – they might need more practise! They also worked as shopkeepers with Fred the Bread man. All the children were fantastic, the multisensory approach used at the Museum really captured their imagination and it was a great introduction to their new topic for after half term.
